As a nurse, I believe that true healing begins with genuine listening. To care for others, it is essential not only to hear what patients say but also to understand the deeper meaning behind their words, emotions, and experiences. Every patient has a unique story, and it is through active listening and empathy that we can provide the most compassionate and individualized care.
I see my role as a guide, supporting patients through their journey with respect and humility. I recognize that I do not have all the answers, but by remaining humble, I create a space where patients feel safe and valued. Their voices matter, and it is my responsibility to honor their autonomy and choices while providing them with the best care possible.
Through listening, I connect with patients on a deeper level, building trust and fostering an environment where they feel heard and understood. In turn, this allows me to deliver care that is not only technically proficient but also aligned with their values and needs. Humility reminds me that every patient is the expert of their own life, and my role is to empower them to make informed decisions about their health and well-being and to be with them to find their answers.
Ultimately, my nursing philosophy centers on the belief that through active listening, hearing the patient, and practicing humility, we create a partnership in care that promotes healing, comfort, and respect.
This has been and still is my focus and passion from day one of nursing school. Working with clients at clinicals has only solidified this belief. After seeing many patients, who at first appeared angry with staff, but once I started talking with them and discovered, that their anger stemmed from someone else not listening to them and d/or dismissing them. By acknowledging their concerns, these patient became some of the nicest patients on my floor.
GOALS:
My goals moving forward for my nursing career for the first year is to find a balance between work and home. I know many nurses within their first year are overwhelmed and burn out quickly. I would like to find a senior nurse mentor early on in my career so I may have someone who is experienced, understanding and patient while I continue to grow and become more confident in myself. I'm not sure where I wish to work at this time, as I like to explore more options and find an area that inspires me to continue growing and learning.
By the end of five years, I hope to have discovered my area of passion, and possibly worked on a community project, or advocacy project within my area. I do love research and solving problems. At some point, in my career I wish to be published, and/or working with either leaders or legislators to create better health care for everyone within my care. I do see myself working in other countries and doing missions to assist in poverty stricken places to bring hope and a brighter future to my fellow man.
