Program outcome 5

I'm very proud of our PICOT project. It was a lot of work, but in the end, it was a wonderful experience and taught me how to identify a problem, find evidence based resources, and present all the information in a professional manner that was clean, clear and concise. We chose this topic, as myself and a classmate both are mothers, and for myself personally I had preterm twins. We have been instructed through our entire nursing careers how essential sleep is for everything. Having been pregnant, and knowing sleep is even more difficult, we decided to see what the effects of lack of sleep had on increasing the risk of preterm birth. We did discover that poor sleep does increase the risk of preterm birth. With a few simple assessments and modifications we can help assist mothers that are identified as having poor sleep quality in their 2/3 trimesters with lavender aromatherapy to decrease their risk of preterm birth.
